Responsibilities

The Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure User Experience team supports our customers in making the world a safer place. If you enjoy working with distributed, multi-disciplinary teams to design and develop innovative solutions that support users solving challenging problems in real time, you have come to the right place. The UX team works directly with customers in the security, public safety, and utilities and communications industries. Because our customers are the first responders in times of emergency, designing and developing tools that make them successful is exciting and meaningful work.

 

The UX team includes visual and interaction designers, functional designers, and user researchers working across all product portfolios within our division. We are looking for talented professionals to plan and execute complex assignments in the development of global products and solutions, with an emphasis on application usability by a large number of office and mobile users.

 

The ideal candidate will support the larger team by performing the following user research tasks:

  • Organize and conduct usability testing, perform data analysis, and develop innovative methods to quantify the user experience
  • Support the planning of user site visits to conduct contextual inquiry and gain an understanding of user environments, scenarios, workflows, and tasks
  • Support the UX team in the development of information architectures, data flow models, user models, wireframes, and UI designs
  • Work with multi-regional developers on implementation and usability testing of software ecosystems that include mobile and wearable devices
  • Design and execute research plans and collaborate with product development teams on prioritizing and scheduling work in an Agile software development environment
  • Facilitate ideation sessions and usability lab operations
  • Facilitate focus group sessions with end-users and evaluate results
  • Analyze and present qualitative and quantitative data and recommend clear courses of action

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in User Experience, Research Psychology, or Human Computer Interaction-related field (Master's Degree preferred)
  • 3+ years relevant work experience (or Masters degree in related field)
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work effectively with customers and users
  • Ability to work in an agile, team-oriented environment
  • Experience with qualitative methods such as usability testing, survey creation, card sorting, contextual inquiry
  • Experience in focus group content creation, moderation, and evaluation
  • Ability to travel to customers sites (10-25%) to support conduct of user events such as ride-alongs, interviews, and usability tests with security, public safety, and utilities and communications personnel
  • Ability to perform tasks that require moderate physical activity such as: walking 2 miles, standing for extended periods of time, lifting and carrying 25lbs (for example, a backpack containing a laptop and other user testing equipment)
  • Ability to visualize data in reports and clearly communicate insights, goals, and results to product team members
  • Experience with database management and big data analysis is a plus
  • Preferred: Education or experience in usability testing and statistical analysis; knowledge of SPSS is a plus
  • Preferred: Experience with Morae, Tobii eye tracking software, or survey creation software (i.e., Survey Monkey)
  • Preferred: Experience supporting a User Experience team
