The Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure User Experience team supports our customers in making the world a safer place. If you enjoy working with distributed, multi-disciplinary teams to design and develop innovative solutions that support users solving challenging problems in real time, you have come to the right place. The UX team works directly with customers in the security, public safety, and utilities and communications industries. Because our customers are the first responders in times of emergency, designing and developing tools that make them successful is exciting and meaningful work.

The UX team includes visual and interaction designers, functional designers, and user researchers working across all product portfolios within our division. We are looking for talented professionals to plan and execute complex assignments in the development of global products and solutions, with an emphasis on application usability by a large number of office and mobile users.

The UX team seeks a UX Designer who will be responsible for designing the content and structure of information for mobile, web-based, responsive, and desktop applications created by Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure.

The ideal candidate will support the larger team by performing the following UX design tasks:

    • Collaborate with designers, user researchers, and software developers to support design and development of user experience for software products from conception to delivery.
    • Develop information architecture for applications by simplifying complex content and workflows into meaningfully organized sections that help users more efficiently and accurately complete their tasks.
    • Communicate organization and structure of content through the creation of wireframes and higher fidelity UI designs.
    • Support conducting contextual inquiry to gain an understanding of user environments, scenarios, workflows, and tasks.
    • Support the UX team in the development of user models, including journey maps, workflows, and cross-product integration stories.
    • Research and evaluate emerging trends in interaction and interface design and match those to users’ needs.
    • Ensure that design guidelines are maintained and shared with appropriate stakeholders to guide product design and development.

    Qualifications

    • 4-year degree (BS or BA) in UX/Interaction Design, Human Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or design-related field, with a concentration in Information Architecture as a plus.
    • 1-3 years of experience in design and creation of site maps, content modeling, navigation, hierarchies, data models, and metadata frameworks
    • Experience developing Information Architecture for form-heavy applications
    • Ability to create UI design wireframes and mockups, with a focus on organization and structure of content
    • Ability to design across devices and systems, including desktop, web-based, and mobile applications
    • Ability to collaborate with remotely located employees to create and communicate content strategy
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ability to work effectively with customers and users
    • Enthusiasm for an agile, iterative design process, driven by group critique
    • Ability to travel to customer sites (10-25%) to support user data collection through ride-alongs, interviews, and usability tests with security, public safety, and utilities and communications personnel
    • Ability to perform tasks that require moderate physical activity such as: walking 2 miles, standing for extended periods of time, lifting and carrying 25lbs (for example, a backpack containing a laptop and other user testing equipment)
    • Required:  Basic skills in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, Photoshop)
    • Preferred:  Ability to prototype in one or more of the following: Axure RP, Adobe XD, Sketch, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, or other tools
